dual boot vista 5308 ide xp sata raid

Dual boot Vista 5308 on IDE with XP on SATA Raid

I normally run XP Professional SP2 on a SATA Raid system. I have successfully installed the Vista 5308 CTP in a primary partition on a normal IDE disk (Vista in second partition on that disk). Vista has apparently set up a dual boot with Legacy Windows but it does not work. The only way that I can currently choose between the OSs is to modify my BIOS to boot from 'HDD0' instead of the usual 'SerialATA'. But even when I do boot to the IDE disk, I am not given a further choice of OSs, it boots straight into Vista. I installed the SATA drivers in Vista on installation and it sees the RAID disk.
Is it possible to set up the Vista BCD to correctly give me a choice of Vista on IDE or XP on SATA and if so how?
Thanks Mike Bernstein

That is a worse situation than mine because at least I can choose which to load by setting the BIOS. You should be able to manually edit the Vista boot. You need to open a command window as 'Administrator' and type 'bcdedit /?' for options. This is not an easy program to use and is quite different from the XP 'boot.ini' system. Several others have tried this and failed.
You might be able to get XP back by using the original CD, Recovery Console and 'fixboot' or something. If you succeed with that, however, you will loose access to Vista. I am grateful that I installed mine on a separate boot type disk (SATA vs IDE), the two boot sectors can co-exist.

I am having a similar problem , I was running XP Pro SP2 on a second partition of a SATA Raid , and use the first partition for storage and testing. After installing Vista 5308 on the First partition of the SATA I am unable to boot XP, it gives a list of boot options but none of them actually boot into xp. I have tried changing the boot options from within vista but it doesnt allow me to manualy change them. Any help apreciated as this is getting quite anoying as my only usable OS is currently a jittery vista !

XP should be on the 1st partition and vista on the 2nd. There is your issue. Always install Vista on 2nd.

Hi, I tried and failed with BCDedit, still have lots to learn with that! Have got it all working ok now though. Re-formatted first partition and installed XP Pro, Then installed vista over the top and this time vista automaticaly added the required boot info and allows me to select either Vista or XP !
